Staged -

The melting ice cream makes your taste buds start to water. The mix of hot and cold makes it an interesting concept of food.

Composite-

The sequence of the flag waving shows of our American patriotism and makes you feel the motion of the flag. I like how it's four seperate pictures that combine to make it look fluid.

Realistic -

This photograph uses light reflections and fabric to make it appear like there is an actual ghost in front of the restaurant. Obviously nobody will actually think it's real, but it's cool how realish it looks.

Photo into art -

The message is simply to portray the natural beauty of pumpkins. I like it because it looks just like a watercolor painting.

Best Photoillustration

My favorite was the Kermit the frog one. It's the only one that really uses photographs, plus I like the humor of how left-handed people are proud of their left-handedness. The main message is to show all the famous celebrities who are left-handed. It easily could have been made in Photoshop, cropping the space around Kermit and making circles around the celebrities.

16 - The angles all pointing to the center seem to suck you in, then they lead you up to the sky. The tiles on the building give the eye something interesting to examine. The exposure is captured so the lighting makes the sides unimportant and all you can make out are the railings that act like vacuum lines. The fact that the angle perspective is looking up stairs, out of darkness and into the light sky, makes it feel like you're walking into freedom, "rising from the dead".

Bill Fortney

This is my favorite photo by Bill Fortney.

The contrast of the black and white with the red petals is what makes the simple subject striking. The picture fills the frame perfectly, giving the impression that it continues off the edges. The piano keys and petals can evoke a variety of feelings and themes.

Langston Hughes and Gordon Parks

I read for 20 minutes. My favorite poem is the first one, "Advertisement for the Waldorf-Astoria", because the sarcastic irony really portrays his attitude against racism.
This is an informal portrait. The outdoor lighting doesn't make any abstract effect, but strikes powerful shadows at the beggar's eyes and cheekbones. Looking to the floor expresses the sadness of the beggar, and the girl sympathizes.
